Kim Smith - Head Coach
Kim has been involved with horses for her entire life, with almost twenty years of teaching and training experience. Kim attended Virginia Tech where she earned a B.A. in Animal Science (Equine) and an M.S. in Education while competing on both the IHSA and IDA teams. She has trained riders and horses through preliminary level eventing, second level dressage, and the working hunters. Kim focuses on helping the rider communicate better with their horse through a correct position and clear use of the aids with and emphasis on exceptional horse care. Kim has also been an open show judge and is currently a National Examiner for the United States Pony Club, Inc.
Morgan Sowers - Assistant Coach
Morgan has been riding and taking lessons since she was nine years old. She further pursued her passion for horses at Bridgewater College where she was a member of the IDA and IHSA teams. Bridgewater's IDA team competed in Nationals at Lake Erie College just three years after establishing the program. Morgan also earned a degree in Business Administration with a double Minor in Equine Management and Nutrition during her time at Bridgewater. When it comes to coaching, Morgan values establishing a strong connection between horse and rider, while focusing on the rider's communication skills and managing to keep things fun. She believes that each interaction between horse and rider should be a rewarding experience, whether it be from the ground or in the saddle and encourages riders to share her belief that each interaction is an opportunity for a positive learning experience.
